Nigerian drug baron arrested after 5 months hunt

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) says it eventually hunted down a drug baron it was looking for since five months ago.

The anti-narcotics agency said that it arrested the suspect, Henry Chukwuneku Okamaru (a.k.a. Lawrence Ik Okamaru) in Ondo state.

Okamaru had allegedly hidden 2000.6kg Cannabis Sativa in a concrete mixer truck in Adamawa State. The NDLEA said it discovered and seized the concealed drug on 2nd December 2021. Two other suspects apprehended based on their involvement in the crime are Matthew Donuwe and Friday Nmborgwu.

“Investigations reveal that Okamaru is one of the leaders of a cannabis cultivation cartel that operates in the Ondo-Ekiti axis, while he shuttles between Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Edo and Delta State from where he coordinates supplies of illicit consignments to Northern parts of the country and Lagos State,” the NDLEA said in its statement.
