Tambuwal, Wike make Senate battlefield, this is how

Former governors Nyesom Wike and Aminu Tambuwal have shifted their feud to the senate, as opposition members pick a candidate for the ‘minority leader’ position on Tuesday.

Tambuwal, now a senator, eyes the position and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its support for him.

Two other PDP senators –Senator Jarigbe Akom Jarigbe and Abdul Ningi – are equally interested in the position.

Backing Jarigbe is Wike, the former Rivers state governor, who Tambuwal halted his presidential bid by declaring support at the last minute for another candidate, Abubakar Atiku.

Hungover to his presidential ticket’s defeat, Wike is pulling out all stops against Tambuwal and his party.

The situation is likely to be to Ningi’s advantage, who apparently is the underdog in the senate leadership race.

TheCornet had reported how Tambuwal, the immediate past governor of Sokoto state, withdrew his presidential interest on the night of the party’s primaries, only to declare support for Atiku.

Both Tambuwal and Atiku had ignored the agitation for a presidential candidate from the southern region.

As a fallout, the former Rivers state governor favoured the ruling party’s candidate then –President Tinubu – to win the race against his party’s choice, Atiku.
