Nigeria’s sprinter Tobi Amusan qualifies for semi-final women’s race

Nigerian athlete Tobi Amusan has qualified for the semi-final of the women’s 100m hurdles, by clocking the third-fastest time at the ongoing 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The 26-year-old ran a time of 12.48s(0.4) to win the fifth women’s heat.

Jamaican champion Megan Tapper finished second in the fifth heat with a time of 12.51s while Australia’s Michelle Jenneke ran a time of 12.71s to finish third.

Amusan alongside 26 others, including Kendra Harrison of United States, who ran the fastest in the heat (12.24s), Devynne Charlton, second-fastest (12.44s) will return to the track on Wednesday evening for the semifinals.

The first two from each of the three heats will qualify for the final automatically while the two fastest runners from the heats will join the six as non-automatic qualifiers to complete the final eight.

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) some days ago cleared Amusan of doping allegations.

The AIU had said, “A panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal, by majority decision, has today found that Tobi Amusan has not committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) of three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period.”
