How NYSC officials ‘extort’ corps members in Lagos

Some officials of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ikeja Local Government Area of Lagos State have allegedly imposed arbitrary conditions on graduates enlisted for the scheme.

According to the Foundation for Investigative Journalism, few affected persons alleged the officials compelled them to procure Glo Subscriber Identity Modules (SIM) cards at the price of N700.

A corps member quoted for the story said, “Officials on duty for today’s clearance are mandating us to get Glo SIM cards before we can be cleared. This wasn’t said initially, it was impromptu, and many are stranded.”

Another, said, “Many here do not have money; we are all shocked as to why it is compulsory.”

But Sanni Adeshola, the local government NYSC inspector, denies any knowledge of the incident. She urged the corps members to lodge their complaint with her.
