N1.2bn fraud: Godwin Emefiele’s lawsuit adjourned

Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory Court, Abuja, has adjourned hearing in the N1.2billion lawsuit against Godwin Emefiele, former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The judge adjourned hearing till January 18, 2023.

The Federal Government has alleged that Emefiele breached procurement laws in the purchase of 43 vehicles worth N1.2 billion.

At his previous appearance, Emefile had got the court to accede to his bail request. He was granted bail in the sum of N300 million and requested to produce two sureties in the like sum. As part of the conditions for their suitability, the sureties must be landowners in the FCT.

The judge also ordered Emefiele to deposit his international passport with the court and that he must remain within the jurisdiction of the court
