Edo Deputy Gov. Shaibu slapped with impeachment notice

Phillip Shaibu, the embattled deputy governor of Edo State, has been notified of a plan to impeach him from office. The state house of assembly took the decision on Wednesday.

The Majority Leader, Charity Aiguobarueghian (PDP, Ovia North-East 1), announced the impeachment notice.

According to him 21 out of the 24 members of the legislature signed the impeachment notice. Aiguobarueghian said Shaibu perjured and revealed the government’s secrets.

Following the announcement, the Speaker of the House, Blessing Agbebaku (PDP, Owan-West), directed the Clerk of the house, Mr Yahaya Omogbai, to serve the impeachment notice on the deputy governor.

Agbebaku said that Shaibu has seven days to respond to the allegations.
