Edo: Ighodalo, Shaibu lay claims to PDP governorship ticketÂ

Edo State deputy governor Phillip Shaibu and a favourite of incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki, Asue Ighadalo have emerged the standard bearers of the Peoples Democratic Party at two parallel primaries, held in Benin City on Thursday.

Shaibu’s ambition has pitted him against Obaseki, who favours Ighadalo to succeed him.

While the primary election that produced Shaibu held at his private residence, that of Ighadalo took place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

Ighodalo was declared winner in his own primaries, with 577 votes. His competitors, who recorded nil votes, are Bar Anselm Ojezua , Arthur Esele, Osaro Onaiwu, Martins Uhomoibhi, Hadizat Umoru and Felix Akhabue.
