Some northern youths have indicated their interests in joining insurgents and terrorists, due to hardship and hunger plaguing citizens.

According to Daily Trust, some youths in Suleja, Niger State, waylaid truck drivers carrying foodstuff and stole from them. The situation only calmed after soldiers arrived at the scene, the newspaper reports.

The report also has that scores of residents in Dikwa, Borno State staged a public protest due to the harsh living conditions.

A top government source had allegedly said in the story that Dikwa town  suffers from severe food shortages. This is due to Boko Haram terrorism that has made farming impossible for the natives.

“It is sad that things have gotten to this level; the women are threatening to join the insurgents due to lack of food to feed their families,” the source was reported as saying.

“President Bola Tinubu should urgently intervene. This is beyond what the state government can handle.

“We need special intervention as soon as possible to cushion the effects of hardships that our people are going through,” the source added.
