Tinubu kicks out four officials for corruption

President Bola Tinubu has relieved Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad as managing director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) over a N1.2 billion corruption scandal.

Also sacked are Olaniyi Alaba Netuf, executive director for corporate services; Barka Sajou, executive director, technical services; Sa’adatu Balgore, executive director, rural electrification fund (ref), all in the agency.

He has also ordered “a wider investigation” into the activities of the indicted former officials in the past two years.

In their stead, President Tinubu appointed Abba Abubakar Aliyu as acting Managing Director/CEO of the agency.

Others so appointed are Ayoade Gboyega, as executive director, corporate services; Umar Abdullahi Umar, executive director, technical services; Doris Uboh, as executive director, rural electrification fund (REF); and Olufemi Akinyelure, as Head of Project Management Unit of the Nigeria Electrification Project.

The President urged the appointees “to uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability.” in their duties.
