Abuja resident arrested for kidnapping

The police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have arrested one Emmanuel Okoi, 29, a resident of Jabi.

Okoi, the police said, is a member of a criminal syndicate.

According to a statement, the suspect’s arrest followed the kidnapping of a man and theft of a Sports Utility Vehicle with diplomatic registration number, on 12 October, 2022.

The kidnapped victim and a female companion had visited a pharmacy, located at the Maitama District area of the FCT.

“While the female proceeded into the pharmacy, the male remained by the car waiting.

“It was thereafter reported that some armed hoodlums numbering about 6 came in a Mazda vehicle and forced him into Toyota Landcruiser Jeep with Diplomatic Registration Number GD CD 071, and took off with him,” the police said.

The armed assailants reportedly shot dead a passerby attempting to rescue the kidnapped victim from the captors.

The police said they arrested the suspect seven hours after it launched a manhunt for them.

“Members of the public are therefore enjoined to go about their lawful businesses without the fear of harassment or molestation of any kind and from any quarters but to keep vigilance and make a prompt rendition of distress calls/complaints through the following emergency lines: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883,” the police said.
