9 Nigerian women on dangerous cross-border travel rescued

The police in Katsina state have rescued nine women embarking on a cross-border travel through the Sahara desert.

In a statement issued by Gambo Isah, a superintendent and spokesperson for the police command, the driver conveying the women from Kano state to Daura, in Katsina state, abandoned them and fled upon sighting the security operatives.

The police statement said the women were being trafficked to Libya, through the Nigerian-Niger borders.

“They stated that they are en route Libya through the Niger Republic border,” Isah said.

Those rescued are Timilaye Ojo (26); Blessing Joseph, (19); Khadija Abdullahi (29); Safiyyat Ahmed (21); Precious Nuhu (22); Bolanle Adewusi (32);  Okpoekwu Eunice (28); and Taiwo Adeolo (27).

The police further said they are on the trail of the fleeing suspect.
