Travellers face danger as vandals attack Second Niger Bridge

Unknown vandals have stolen the expansion joints fitted into the Second Niger Bridge, recently opened to the public.

According to a report, an unnamed official with the Ministry of Works reportedly confirmed the theft and warned users to be careful while travelling on the bridge.

“The stolen fitting is an element from the expansion joints of the bridge. Drivers on that road have to be careful as the damaged part can cause discomfort to motorists,” the said official allegedly said.

The Second Niger Bridge had cost the government a whopping N336bn. President Muhammadu Buhari had commissioned the bridge in the twilight of his administration.

The bridge, 1.6 kilometres long, links Anambra state to Delta state. The need to reduce traffic on the heavily-used Niger Bridge necessitated the construction of the Second Niger Bridge.
