Senator’s N204 million fraud trial stalled
Senator Obong Albert’s trial for N204million fraud stalled on Thursday, due to his lead counsel Solomon Umoh’s illness.
According to a statement the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) issued on Friday, a stand-in for Umoh–Aniema Etuk–informed the court when the matter came up on Thursday.
Etuk reportedly told trial judge Agatha A. Okeke, of the Federal High Court, Uyo, Akwa Ibom, that he could not hold the brief, because he didn’t have the facts of the case.
“The EFCC is prosecuting Senator Albert Bassey on six counts of Money Laundering, arising from the allegation that he took possession of six vehicles worth N204million, at the instance of one Olajide Omokore, whose companies had contracts with the State Government, at the time,” said the statement by the anti-graft body.
