Severed head, burnt corpses as Anambra faces grisly murders
Anambra State, South-East Nigeria, has faced increasing cult violence and grisly murders.
In one instance, some gunmen suspected to be cultist dragged a man out of a car before shooting him at close range.
The assailants would subsequently use the deceased’s severed head as a football, as shown in a video that circulated the social media on Sunday.
People familiar with the incident said the violence was a cult rivalry. It was also alleged that the premises where the severed head was being kicked was a hostel inhabited by students of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, located in Igbariam area of the state.
Similarly, some assailants shot two persons dead, also on Sunday, in Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
Toochukwu Ikenga, a deputy superintendent and spokesperson for the Anambra Police Command, indicated a probe had been set up.
“The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Tony Olofu, has ordered an investigation on the shooting incident on 25/9/2021 by 4 pm along Igbariam road.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the shooting was as a result of the rival cult clash. Meanwhile, Police Operatives have intensified patrol and surveillance within the area. Further details shall be communicated,” he said.
