Quranic teacher involved in child torture to be prosecuted

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has vowed to take legal action against a Quaranic teacher who tortured a pupil in an Almajiri school in Niger State.

The torture of the eleven-year-old Almajiri boy, Isah Muazu caught the attention of the state governor and he subsequently deployed officials to fetch the boy back to Kaduna.

Sani said, “We have brought back all the children from Niger State. We have a better Tsangaya system in Kaduna State where we will give them Islamic and formal education.

“There is no place in the Holy Qur’an that says underaged children have to be taken away from their parental care before they get an Islamic education. We don’t want to see children roam the streets begging.”

The victim, Muazu and others similarly abused by Almajiri schools returned to Kaduna based on Governor Sani’s intervention.

The governor promised to give the affected pupils free education under the Tsangaya education system in Kaduna State.

Sani also promised to prevent child abuse in the state.

The affected pupils are said to have received medical and psychosocial treatment, according to the state’s commissioner for human services and social development, Hajia Rabi Salisu.
