Opeyemi Bamidele dares Buhari, Ndume

Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti) is in the race for the Senate Majority Leader as his counterparts –Senators Ali Ndume (APC, Borno), Adamu Aliero (APC, Kebbi) and Abdulfatai Buhari (APC, Oyo North).

The election of principal officers for the 10th Senate is holding on Tuesday. The contest is expected to be a fierce one among the ranking senators.

According to a report, Bamidele seems the most favoured to win the race. He is perceived to be the establishment’s choice, given that he is also a protégé of President Bola Tinubu.

As governor of Lagos, Tinubu, in July 2000, appointed Bamidele his special adviser on political and inter-governmental affairs. He would later serve as the commissioner for youths, sports and social development; commissioner for information and strategy in Lagos state at different times.

Other positions to be filled by the ruling party’s senators are positions of the deputy majority leader, chief whip, and deputy chief whip.

In the same vein, the opposition parties will put their candidates forward for the positions of senate’s minority leader, deputy minority leader, minority whip, and deputy minority whip.
