Nigerian man sentenced to 14 years imprisonment, death for murder

A Nigerian man from Kano state, Ibrahim Khalil, has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment and death by hanging.

Khalil, 19, had kidnapped his five years old nephew after which he cellotaped his nose and mouth, before burying him alive.

The lid blew off Khalil’s act, leading to his arrest and arraignment before a Kano state high court.

During the suspect’s trial, prosecution counsel, Lamido Sorondinki, told the court that the Khalil committed the offence sometime in 2019 at Karkasara Quarters in Kano metropolis.

The prosecution said the offences contravened section 274 and 221 (a) of the Penal Code and presented three witnesses and four exhibits before the court.

The convict, however, denied committing the offence.

Delivering his ruling, the trial judge, Usman Naabba said the prosecution was able to prove his case against Khalil.

Naaba thereupon sentenced Khalil according to the offence he committed.
