Woman arrested over contraceptives says police took N2,000 bribe
A young woman has alleged she bought her freedom from the police, after parting with a N2,000 bribe.
According to a viral post on Friday, Oladayo Olanipekun procured pregnancy test kits and contraceptives from a pharmacy. On her return, a police man allegedly accosted her and demanded to know what she had on her.
Finding out the content, Olanipekun said the policeman asked her ‘why she should be having sex.’
“He asked me why I was in possession of the drugs; I tried to explaining (sic) to him what they were meant for. He then said, “Why are you having sex”, she said.
Olanipekun said she did not give a reply, following which the policeman kept her behind the counter.
Few minutes later, he said I should call my boyfriend. I did not answer him (and) then he locked me up.
I was in there till they collected N2,000 from my friends who came to check up on me,” she said in a post to Instagram.
The young woman is said to be a student of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, in Ogun State where the incident took place.
In a report by the PUNCH, Abimbola Oyeyemi, spokesperson for the Ogun Police Command, said the police only asked the young women whether she had a doctor’s prescription for the drugs.
