Joe Igbokwe backs down on Tinubu, Wike’s meeting in France

Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos state, has backdown on his claim that presidential flag bearer Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike met in France.

Igbokwe, who serves as a special adviser to Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had made the claim via a post he published on Facebook.

Taunting critics of Tinubu, Igbokwe wrote in the post: “While they are on social media abusing everybody, Governor Wike goes to France to meet Asiwaju. Abuse, calling names, hate, and bigotry are no strategy. They hated and abused PMB (President Muhammadu Buhari) since 2015 and now they have transferred the aggression to Asiwaju. We wait and see.”

But, Igbokwe has since taken down the post.

Wike, a leader of opposition Peoples Democratic Party, is believed to be aggrieved after he lost his party’s president ticket to former vice president, Abubakar Atiku. Atiku also ditched the Rivers governor whom many leaders of the party had pencilled down to his running mate. Atiku chose Delta state governor Patrick Ifeanyin Okowa instead.

The choice of Okowa seems to have torn the party, with some calling for the ouster of its national chairman Iyorchia Ayu. Confirming the grievances of some party leaders against Atiku’s choice, Benue Governor Samuel Ortom Monday wondered why he failed to pick Wike. According to him, 13 out of 17 leaders drawn up to pick a vice presidential candidate for Atiku chose Wike.
