Fayemi, Sanwo-Olu, others rubbishing our efforts by romancing Wike – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state says the APC governors’ visit to their counterpart Nyesom Wike was embarrassing to the party.

TheCornet reports that Lagos, Ekiti, and Ondo governors, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Kayode Fayemi, and Rotimi Akeredolu respectively visited Wike in what many saw as the former’s plan to profit from the PDP crisis.

Speaking at a meeting on Monday in Port Harcourt, Sydney Nyeche, chairman of the party in Obio/Akpor LGA, said the visit to Wike “rubbishes” their efforts in trying to reclaim Rivers.

“Visiting Wike is an embarrassment to our efforts in trying to reclaim the state,” Nyeche said.

We find it disrespectful that while we are toiling for the party in the state, some group of governors from the west (south-west) will come to the state, go to Rumueprikom and negotiate with Nyesom Wike.

“The attention of the national chairman is drawn to this because we will not tolerate this anymore. We have had enough.

“We urge the national working committee (NWC) of the party to warn these governors from the west to desist from coming to the state to negotiate with the governor.

This level of embarrassment we have suffered should stop. I cannot be threatened every day because of my political leanings and somebody will come from the west to rubbish our efforts.

“If they cannot come to the state to show solidarity with us, they should stop coming to the state.”

Wike has been having a running battle with the PDP leadership, as he and other aggrieved governors continue to demand Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman, resign from his position.Â

The aggrieved party chieftains hinge their call for Ayu’s exit on his being from the north as the party’s presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

They alluded to an earlier agreement in which Ayu purported promised to resign if the situation turned to be so.

But, the PDP Ayu has persistently defied the call. Owing to his insistence to stay put in office, Wike and other aggrieved chieftains vowed they would not participate in Atiku’s presidential campaigns.

The crisis in the party had made many watchers believe Wike would dump the opposition for the ruling party. But, Wike has said he would remain in the PDP to fight what he describes as an injustice.Â
