Tinubu’s campaign states readiness for court battle with ObiÂ

Bayo Onanuga, the spokesperson for the presidential campaign council of president-elect Bola Tinubu, said they were dismayed with Peter Obi’s claim that he won the presidential race. Obi addressed a press conference on Thursday where he vowed to prove to Nigerians that he, and not Tinubu, won.

The Tinubu campaign said it welcomed Obi’s decision to pursue legal action rather “than calling supporters to the streets and instigating social unrest.”

The campaign said Obi winning in either APC, or PDP-controlled states made the poll credible.

“We believe that the Labour Party Presidential Candidate contradicted himself and exposed himself to public ridicule by suggesting that the election was only credible in states and places his party won.

“We need to forewarn Mr. Obi, that when he gets to court he should be prepared to tell the world how his party won over 90% of votes in his region of South East while other parties got almost nothing. We have evidence of voters suppression, intimidation and harassment in South East especially of those who came out to vote for our party, ” the statement said.

Equally, the Tinubu campaign said that Obi would have to prove his claim that rigging took place in over 40,000 polling units including “in North West and North East where his party had no party agents and did not sign result sheets as required by law. It is our assumption that Labour Party will enlist PDP agents to prove its fraud claims since it is an affiliate of PDP.”

“We want to state again for the umpteenth time that Mr. Obi didn’t win the presidential election and could not have won under any circumstances.”

On Thursday, Obi addressed a press conference, alleging he won but he was rigged out of the race. He vowed to prove that the APC robbed him of victory in the poll.
