Citizen refunded N303k extorted by police operatives

Citizen Ogene Ejiro has received the money extorted from him by three rogue police operatives. Ejiro in his tweet on October 11 claimed the policemen extorted him after accusing him of being a fraudster.

He claimed the officers took him to a Point of Sale operator, where he withdrew the money and handed to them.

Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for Nigeria Police, said Ogene’s money had been handed back to him. He tweeted pictures of him handing Ogene the said N303,000 (Three Hundred and Three Thousand Naira).

He also gave the names of the affected officers indicted for the extortion as Inspector  Nuhu Shaibu, Sgt Guusu Collins, and Sgt Airagbon Felix.

“They are attached to the Anti Violence Squad of the FCT Command, Abuja,” Adejobi stated.

Cases of police extortion is rampart in Nigeria, but the police leadership says it is working to purge its fold of bad eggs. Lately, the police have dismissed errant officers for various offences including extortion.

Unlike in time past, the current political leadership puts up an active social media showing, particularly on Twitter, whereit updates the public about its activities and responds to citizens’ complaints.
