Rogue police officers extort ₦34.3m from Lagos man days after forcefully taking $3000 from another victim

Three rogue police officers currently undergoing an orderly room trial have been exposed for kidnapping and extortion of ₦34, 360, 000 from a man in Lagos.

The three officers, attached to the Rivers State Police Command, traveled down to Lagos to carry out the operation.

A whistleblower known as Harrison Gwamnishu exposed the police alleged deed in a post on X.

Gwamnishu is known for exposing extortions by police officers, and his interventions in some circumstances have helped the victims recover their monies.

In the last expose, Gwamnishu said that the three police officers, two of whom are ASP Doubara Edonyabo and Inspector Odey Michael, came down to Lagos on the 17th October, 2023, and “kidnapped” their victim.

He added that the police officers at gunpoint in a Lagos hotel compelled the victim to transfer the sum of N18,560,000 to a Fidelity Bank account number 6972015919, owned by one Isah Saidu.

The whistleblower added that the police officers the next day led the victim to a bank, where he was forced again to transfer another N15,800,000 to the same bank account, totalling over ₦34m.

Gwamnishu’s initial revelation had spurred the Rivers Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu, to take an action leading to the refund of $3,000 to the first victim.

In an official response to the second allegation against the rogue police officers, the command assured Gwamnishu of diligent investigation of the incident.

The command said, “An orderly room trial has been initiated, and I am pleased to inform you that significant developments have arisen in the case.

“The Commissioner of Police for Rivers State, CP Olatunji Disu, will be issuing a comprehensive press statement next week, addressing the matter and providing detailed information about the ongoing investigations.

“The Officers involved in the case are currently in detention as the police actively investigate other related cases that have emerged. We consider these matters seriously and are committed to conducting a thorough and fair investigation.”
