Police rescue journalist after gun battle with kidnappers

The Ogun state police command said that they rescued a journalist, Olusegun Oduneye from kidnappers. Oduneye’s captors, the police said, seized him at Mobalufon area of Ijebu Ode at about 7.50pm last Thursday.

The kidnappers reportedly demanded N30million from Oduneye’s wife, who they contacted using her husband’s mobile phone. The wife reported to the police, who launched a rescue effort leading them to the Idimu area of Lagos. The police said they rescued Oduneye at the kidnappers’ hideout at Idimu.

The kidnappers engaged the police in a gunfight that allegedly lasted 45minutes. The criminals are said to have escaped with gunshot injuries.

“The victim’s car was soaked with the kidnappers blood as a result of gunshot injuries,” the police said.

The police enjoin members of the public, hospitals, and traditional healing homes to report anyone seen with a gunshot injury.
