AGF takes over Ohakim’s sexual offence suit
Abubakar Malami, Nigeria’s attorney general, has directed the taking over of the sexual offence suit against former Imo governor Ikedi Ohakim.
A lady, Chinyere Amuchienwa, has accused Ohakim of threatening and harassing her. She also claimed the former governor threatened to release her nude photographs if she did not drop a case of kidnap she instituted against him.
Bagudu Sani, a counsel from the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, informed trial judge Taiwo Taiwo of the takeover on Thursday.
However, R. F Dimka, counsel to the police opposed Sani. He argued the IGP filed the suit and is the complainant in the suit. But Sani told him the IGP had already been notified of the development through a letter.
Justice Taiwo then directed Sani to bring an application formally before the court. The matter was subsequently adjourned till May 6, 2021 to enable parties file and serve written addresses on the propriety of the office of the AGF taking over the case from the Police.
