15 aspirants move to stop Ondo Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said that 16 out of 19 political parties have indicated their interests to contest Ondo governorship post.
The list of aspirants including incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who ascended to the position following the death of former governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
During his meeting with political parties’ representatives on Tuesday, INEC chairman Mahmoud Yakubu urged them to comply with election’ timetable and schedule of activities.
“So far, 16 out of 19 political parties have indicated interest in participating in the election,” he said.
The electoral umpire had directed that party primaries begin between 6thApril 2024 and 27thApril 2024.
Yakubu therefore urges the “political parties to adhere strictly to your proposed dates and modes of primaries.”
He added that “frequent changes, as we witnessed recently during the Edo primaries, are not only disruptive but costly.”
