Your contribution immeasurable, Sanwo-Olu tells Fashola

Lagos state Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu feted his predecessor Babatunde Fashola on attaining 60 years. Fashola was governor of Lagos between 2007 and 2015, and Akinwunmi Ambode succeeded him but only spent a term.

Sanwo-Olu had shared pictures of his and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, and others during their visit to Fashola.

In his comment posted on his official Facebook page, the Governor wrote: “Our dear BRF, you are a true icon, brother, friend, and a worthy ambassador of Lagos State. Your contributions to Lagos and Nigeria at large are immeasurable. As you begin a new year of life, may it be filled with boundless growth, happiness, and fulfillment. I wish you the very best that life can offer you and your family. Cheers to many more years of making positive impact.”

Fashola is reputed to have delivered good governance during his two tenures as state governor, especially in the area of infrastructure development.

Then outgoing governor, Bola Tinubu (now Nigeria’s president) had picked Fashola to be his successor, a decision that rankled members of his inner circle.

Fashola and Tinubu later fell apart and its spill off being his successor, Ambode, siding with the ‘godfather’ and deliberate leak of official documents to the press. One of the documents had shown Fashola as spending millions of naira on his personal website development.

Fashola’s tiff with Tinubu would subsequently become a national issue when he was asked about it during a televised ministerial screening. His response to the senators, ‘may our loyalty never be tested’, became a buzz and was widely reported in the press.

Fashola held the positions of minister works, and housing at different times through out the erstwhile Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
