Why Fifa is bypassing NFF to pay Super Falcons – Samoura

Fifa’s  secretary-general, Fatma Samoura, says the world’s football administration body’s took the unprecedented decision to pay match allowances and bonuses directly to the Super Falcons because of the ‘realities of Nigeria’.

Samoura made the statement in a viral video.

She said, “I know that things have been tough. We have to face the realities of Nigeria. It pains me a lot. It is because of you [the Super Falcons] that, for the first time, the prize money has been ring-fenced in the history of FIFA to ensure that it goes to you.”

TheCornet reports that Fifa has set aside $30,000 for each player participating in the World Cup group stage while it increased match bonuses to $60,000 for each player in the second round of the competition. During the lead-up to the World Cup, Randy Waldrum, Falcons head coach, revealed that some players are owed “per diem and bonuses” from two years ago.

Equally, Arsenal legend Ian Wright had urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to pay the players. “Pay them Nigeria Football Federation”, Wright tweeted.
