Undergraduate arrested for slaughtering lover

Demain Okoligwe, a University of Port Harcourt undergraduate, has been detained by police in Pot Harcourt, Rivers State, for the murder of his girlfriend.

Demain performed the act, according to the investigators, for ritualistic reasons.

The victim, Justina Otuene, was invited by the suspect, a 400-level student in the university’s petrochemical engineering department, to his home on NTA Road in Ozuoba, which is close to Port Harcourt.

During the visit, the suspect slaughtered Justina, a 300-level student at the same institution.

After noticing a foul smell coming from Demain’s apartment, his neighbor called the police. The police forced their way into the apartment and recovered the decapitated body hidden in a sack.

Demain was subsequently arrested.

Rivers Stateā€™s Commissioner of Police, Emeka Nwonyi, said ā€œa good Samaritanā€ tipped off the law enforcement.

He said, ā€œOn arrival, the door was forcefully opened, and a Ghana-must-go bag containing a lifeless body was recovered.ā€

He confirmed Demainā€™s arrest and warned parents about the type of friends their children keep.
