Police officer assaulted, gun snatched

A police officer has been assaulted and his rifle snatched from him at an area called Amakama Oloko, in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.

According to the story, a Canadian returnee identified as Chidiebere Eluwa, invited the officers to eject his nephews from his father’s house. Eluwa reportedly complained that the said nephews were disturbing his aged father and sister who are living in the house. He also claimed to have given them money to find an alternative accommodation but the said nephews refused.

At the time some police officers arrived at the house, the said nephews had fled the place. One of the police officers was stationed at the residence while his colleagues left for the station.

“One of my nephews contacted the vigilante group (who) arrived with automatic rifles and assaulted the lone officer, confiscating his gun. While they were returning, the other officers pursuing my nephews encountered their colleague under attack,” Eluwa said.

The leader of the vigilante group encountered and disarmed the lone police officers  before his colleagues could return to rescue him. The gun was retrieved from assaulter, who was also arrested by the police.
