Comic actor Mr. Ibu dies

Nigerian comic actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, has passed on. Okafor died on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at a hospital in Lagos, aged 63 years old. He reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest.

Okafor faced a protracted illness, during which his legs were amputated. He enjoyed a public goodwill and at a time financial donations from the members of the public to his medical care.

While he was bedridden, controversies occasioned by his wife and adopted daughter Jasmine swirled around the actor. Okafor’s wife and the said Jasmine recriminated over the management of the financial donation, culminating subsequently in police intervention.

Actor colleagues and fans of Okafor have expressed shock over his death and paid their condolences.

Emeka Rollas, who heads Actors Guild of Nigeria, describes the occurrence and, similarly, the passing of the mother of another notable actor, Kate Henshaw, as bring about a “Sad day for the Actors Guild of Nigeria.

Okafor’s death comes in the wake of the death of Quadri Oyebamiji, a Yoruba actor, better known as Sisi Quadri.
