Pirates abduct 8 persons in Bayelsa

Sea pirates operating have abducted eight persons travelling on a speed boat in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The boat reportedly departed Egweama waterfront in Brass Local Government Area of the state.
The boat had 15 passengers as at the time the gun-wielding pirates struck. The pirates set free the seven other passengers.
The victims were party guests returning from a funeral ceremony.
Chairman, Maritime Workers Union in Brass Local Government Area, Mr. Daniel Biodoumoye, confirmed the attack. He said that “the pirates intercepted the 200 horse power engine boat close to a rice farm and fled off with eight of the 15 passengers.”
The Regent of Egwe Ibe Community, Chief Timipre Saka-Yabi, condemned the kidnap while calling for the victim’s unconditional release.
The Police said they are investigating the incident. SP Asinim Butswat, the spokesperson for Balyesa police command, said efforts are being made to rescue the victims and arrest the abductors.
