Opposition mounts against Akpabio’s senate presidency bid

Godswill Akpabio has continued to face stiff opposition to his bid to becoming the next senate president.

The ruling All Progressives Congress seems to have settled for the choice of Akpabio, though the party is yet to announce its decision.

TheCornet gathered that others contesting the position as Akpabio met with the party leadership, stating their opposition and demanding a fresh zoning arrangement for national assembly leadership positions.

The same opposition has is manifesting in the house of representative against the party’s choice, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas. Some lawmakers in the lower chamber reportedly met the speaker, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who appears to be spearheading Abbas’ nomination.

Similarly, Ondo state Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, has condemned the zoning arrangement that seems to favour the north-west more than the other zones.

Akeredolu said it would be an injustice by the party to zone two of the national assembly positions to the northwest while ignoring the north-central  zone.

“It is trite to aver that it stands logic on the head that one geo-political zone, North-West in this regard, will be favoured with two presiding officers positions out of four while North-Central suffers the consequences for its innocence and shrewd loyalty by having none,” he said.
