‘NURTW negotiating with LASG following MC. Oluomo’s suspension’
The Lagos State Government and the national body of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, are negotiating a way out of the crisis rocking the union, a report said.
Channels television reported that a source in the NURTW parent body confirmed to it “steps were been taken to bring the situation under control.”
The source, it said, was speaking on the reaction of the NURTW to the decision by its estranged member, Musiliu Akinsanya, to cut ties with the transport union.
Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo, had announced the Lagos chapter of union was severing from its national body after the latter announced his suspension indefinitely.
He therefore called on the Lagos State Government to take over motor parks.
The report comes as the Lagos State Government on Friday debunked a report that it had appointed Akinsanya to manage motor parks, after suspending activities of the union in the state.
Jubril Gawat, who is the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on New Media, denied such appointment was made.
“Kindly disregard post(s) claiming that Governor Sanwo-Olu has appointed (the) suspended Chairman of NURTW, MC Oluomo as GM, Lagos Transport Parks and Garages Committee,” the governor’s aide said in a tweet on Friday.
“There’s no such appointment. Media houses posting it are quoting his son as the source of the news.”
