Nigeria screens police recruits for mental fitness

Nigeria’s minister of police affairs, Maigari Dingyadi has said recruits are undergoing mental fitness test.

Dingyadi said this on Thursday at a press briefing held at the Aso Villa.

He also said the government would employ another set of 10,000 constables into the force soon.

Dingyadi said the recruitment is in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s promise to add 40,000 men to the police force during his second term of office.

The recruitment would be done in the “next one month or two”, he said.

The minister also said the government is addressing the issue of police welfare, being part of the demands of #EndSARS protesters.

He adds that the police have trained 25,000 constabularies to carry out community policing and urged community leaders to cooperate with them through the sharing of intelligence and reporting criminal cases.
