Real reasons we want Atiku arrested – APC
The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council has stated the reasons it is seeking arrest and prosecution of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party Abubakar Atiku.
At a press conference on Monday, the APC-PCC accused Atiku and his former boss, ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo of stealing public funds using a shell company- Marine Float, which they designated as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV).
The campaign added that the “disagreement over monies … in the ‘SPV’ accounts” was responsible for the “seemingly irreconcilable quarrel between” Obasanjo and his then vice president, Atiku.
In addition, the APC said Obasanjo and Atiku, then as incumbents, used the stolen public funds to individually set up two private universities: the Bells University, Ota, and the American University of Nigeria respectively.
Based on its assertion, the APC stated the actions of the two leaders breached public trust and contravened the Code of Conduct Act, and Money Laundering Act. It therefore asked that Atiku step down from the presidential race and to be prosecuted for the offence.
The APC opined the material evidence released by an estranged ally of Atiku, Michael Achimugu, is a basis for security agencies to move in on Atiku.
The party also said it is “disillusioned” about the “conspiratorial silence of a section of the media over this grave issue …even after seeing court processes in form of a sworn affidavit.”
TheCornet gathered that the party subsequently submitted a petition against Atiku to the security agencies.
