Lagos couple lands in Kirikiri prison for assaulting policeman

Clinton and Adebayo Ayobami, who are husband and wife, have been remanded in Kirikiri Prison on the instruction of a judge on Monday.

The couple were driving in an unmarked Benz car when the on-duty police officers at a checkpoint stopped them. The incident happened at the Ipaja area of Lagos state.

Benjamin Hudenyin, spokesperson for the Lagos Police Command, in a raft of tweets, stated that the wife, Adebayo, assaulted one of the policemen

He shared the video of the incident, where Adebayo was seen holding the uniformed police officer by his shirt and hitting him with her fist.

In the video, Adebayo was trying to resist a police officer from getting into the front seat of the car, where she, apparently, sat before the policemen stopped their car. At the same time, the policeman was pressing himself against the nursing mother, in his attempt to force his way into the car.

The video only captured the moment the assault took place, which led some of those who responded to the tweet to ask for the full video.

In his response, the police spokesperson said,

“The full video is way worse. Very serious assault. She kept asking why their vehicle, and not other vehicles.

“Her husband really tried to rein her in. She was a loose cannon. I cropped the video because there was too much cleavage. I don’t want indecent exposure on my timeline, Hudenyin tweeted.

Asked, again, why police officers are wont to hop into vehicles of suspected offender, Hudenyin said the Nigeria Police lacked towing vehicles.
