Judge criticizes unready counsel in Atiku’s eligibility suit
Justice Inyang Ekwo has frowned upon the delay by counsel Joseph Oyewole in the suit challenging former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s citizenship.
Oyewole, who is counsel to the Incorporated Trustees of Egalitarian Mission of Africa (EMA), had requested an extension of time to enable him serve certain respondents to the suit.
Responding to Oyewole, Justice Ekwo said, “This is a matter you filed since 2019, and you are just filing your processes this morning after the last adjournment.”
Despite the judge’s displeasure, Oyewole was granted leave to move his motion for time extension.
The motion was unopposed.
The EMA contends that Atiku is ineligible to contest the presidency, considering the provisions of sections 25(1) &(2) and 131(a) of the constitution and the circumstances of his birth.
