Court removes Dogara for defecting to APC
A Federal High Court in Abuja has removed Hon. Yakubu Dogara from the House of Representatives for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress, (APC).
Dogora, who is a former speaker of the parliament, represents Bogoro/Dass Federal Constituency of Bauchi.
He left the PDP in 2020 over disagreement with state Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State.
Dogara, at the time of his leaving, said Governor Mohammed often accused him of disloyalty any time he raised questions on state affairs.
Dogara had teamed up with Mohammed to unseat then incumbent, Mohammed Abubakar.
Following his defection, Dogara’s former party, the PDP, instituted a suit aimed at removing him as a federal lawmaker. Nigerian law stipulates that an elected politician will lose his seat if without a crisis in his original party defects to another.
