Suspected herdsmen kill governor’s kinsmen

Suspected criminals have killed three persons said to be Governor Samuel Ortom’s kinsmen in Benue State.

The governor alleges the killers were Fulani herdsmen, whom he said “invaded the state in a bid to take over our ancestral lands”.

Nat Ikyur, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ortom, confirmed the incident. “This has been the plight of Benue indigenes in the hands of Fulani herdsmen who have invaded the state in a bid to take over our ancestral lands,” he was quoted to have said.

The victims, two males and a female, were reportedly killed in an ambush at about 5 pm on Saturday.

‘The gunmen laid an ambush and blocked the Lordye- Gbajimba road in Guma Local Government Area of the state’.

‘The victims were riding on a motorcycle when they were ambushed and shot dead.’

While one of the victims was allegedly gunned down, the other was killed with a machete.

The corpses have been deposited at Gbajimba general hospital, the report stated.
