NLC, TUC stopped from going on strike

The National Industrial Court has barred the Nigerian Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, and their affiliates from embarking on a national strike slated to begin next week.

The unions announced the strike as a fallout of the brutality meted to NLC president, Joe Ajaero, in Imo State recently.

Justice Benedict Bakwaph Kanyip, president of the court, issued the restraining order based on an ex-parte application filed by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice.

Tijani Gazali, SAN, who filed the application, said the strike, if allowed, would badly affect citizens and businesses.

Granting the application, Justice Kanyip invoked sections 17 and 19 of the National Industrial Court Act.
