FG’s raises team to implement Pulaku initiative over farmer-herder clashes

The Federal Government has set up a special committee that will implement it’s Pulaku initiative, aimed at curbing the perennial farmer-herder clashes taking place in different parts of the country.

Vice President Kashim Shettima inaugurated the committee on Tuesday.

The committee’ s chairman is the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa. It also has representatives of governors of the benefiting states as members.

The government describes the initiative as “a large scale resettlement programme aimed at addressing the root causes of farmers-herders conflicts and fostering national unity.”

TheCornet reports that Shettima had previously called the initiative “a non-kinetic solution” during his visit to Kaduna State over the accidental military bombing of villagers in Tudun Biri community.

He had said at the time that “the Pulaku initiative is the President’s unique response as a non-kinetic solution to the challenges in the North West.”

He added: “The beneficiary states are Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, and for the purpose of equity and justice we deliberately included Niger and Benue States.

“We’re going to build an office which will complement all other efforts. Ours is a complete package as well, including houses, clinics, schools, veterinary clinics, empowerment initiatives, solar energy, etcetera. It is a complete package solution as a non-kinetic response to the problems of banditry and kidnapping in the northwest.”
