Terrorists free family of six, other among abducted train passengers

Terrorists who kidnapped scores of passengers on a train transiting Kaduna to Abuja have released a family of six and a woman.

TheCornet had reported how the terrorists flogged their male victims in a video they released. They also threatened to execute their victims and abduct President Muhammadu Buhari, if he failed to meet their demands.

The Wednesday freed captives are Abdubakar Idris Garba, his wife, Maryam Abubakar Bobo and his four children, the youngest of whom is one-and-a-half years old.

The father, Abubakar Idris Garba, is a staff of the National Assembly Service Commission. His own father is onetime military administrator of Kano and Benue States.

Freed along with the Garbas is Hajia Aisha Hassan (60). The captors released Hassan ostensibly on humanitarian grounds, as she is said to be suffering a life-threatening ailment.

Tukur Mamu, an aide of Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi said his principal facilitated the release of the captives.

Gumi has continued to show sympathy for the

captors while he urging the government to address their demands.
