Gloom, sadness grip Lagos traders as shops consumed in night fire

Some traders have lost their valuables to a Tuesday night inferno, caused by a petrol tanker that caught fire, at a location along Agbado Road, in Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, reportedly said that the fire occurred at 10.04 p.m, due to “a gas tanker that accidentally caught fire and accompanied by an explosion.”

She added that the fire consumed “the adjoining row of shops.”

In addition, the Lagos State Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Authority, Ibrahim Farinloye, explained that the ill-fated “tanker had a collision with an electric pole while trying to enter the premises of where it was to offload its content leading to a cable snapping that resulted to the explosion.”

“The impact of the collision led to a cable falling on the container and therefore resulted in a spark,” he stated.
