Despite his denial, Buhari moves to anoint presidential aspirant

President Muhammadu Buhari is to pick from a list of five presidential aspirants allegedly forwarded to him.

Reports state that governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presented the president with a list of five presidential aspirants one of whom he is expected to pick as the party’s consensus candidate.

The alleged names are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Governors Kayode Fayemi and Dave Umahi, and Rotimi Amaechi.

This contradicts the president’s statement that delegates would decide who the party’s flag bearer would be. The President Monday denied endorsing Senator Ahmad Lawan, after he was announced by Abdullai Adamu as the party’s consensus candidate.

Buhari, in a statement, said: “You were elected as I was. Have a clear mind as I have. God gave us the chance; we have no reason to complain. We must be ready to take pain as we take the joy. Allow the delegates to decide. The Party must participate, nobody will appoint anybody.”
