Court fines two foreigners N10m for offering N50m bribe to EFCC

The Court of Appeal sitting in Sokoto on Friday convicted two Chinese nationals, namely Meng Wei Kun, and Mr. Xu Kuai.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had preferred a three counts charge of conspiracy, money laundering, and attempted bribery against the convicts.

The anti-graft body claimed the Chinese nationals offered its officials N50million in bribes, in their bid to scuttle investigation into their offences.

The three-man Court Appeal justices, led by Justice Abubakar Mahmud Talba gave a unanimously overruled a previous ruling by the Federal High Court, Sokoto, which discharged and acquitted the convicts of the crime.

Delivering the judgment, Talba said the the men were guilty of two of the three counts charges. The court sentenced them to two years imprisonment on each of the counts or an option of paying N10m fine.
