Baba Ijesha sentenced to 16 years imprisonment
Baba Ijesha, the Nollywood actor accused of sexually abusing a child, has been sentenced to 16 years imprisonment. The actor whose real name is Olarenwaju Omiyinka, was sentenced on Thursday by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court. The judge convicted Baba Ijesha on two of six counts preferred against him.
The victim is a foster child of a fellow actor and comedienne, Princess.
Baba Ijesha was charged with six count of child defilement, indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault by penetration.
The prosecution, which is the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions, had preferred the charges against the actor. The plaintiff agued that the offences contravene Section 135, 137, 261, 202, 262 and 263 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015.
Baba Ijesha pleaded ‘not guilty to all the counts’. The prosecution had presented a Closed-Circuit Television footage that showed the actor touching the minor inappropriately.
