LG secretariat, magistrate court torched in Anambra state

Some suspected arsonists on Sunday night torched the secretariat of the Idemili North LGA, a magistrate court, and an office belonging to Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), all in Anambra State.

The destruction is consistent with the activities of criminals, popularly referred to in local parlance, as unknown gunmen.

The wanton destruction is happening after the state governor, Charles Soludo met with the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Soludo had stated Kanu’s purported displeasure at the disruption of commercial activities and movement restriction, among other things happening in the state.

The state police command has confirmed the development, attributing it to unidentified arsonists.

Spokesperson of the Command, Toochukwu Ikenga, said: “Yes, the incident was confirmed, and our men were there to restore normalcy.

“Right now, the fire has been put off, and calm has been restored to the area.”
