19 persons arrested for extorting Lagos motorists

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, has said that it arrested 19 hoodlums for extortion of commercial drivers in Lagos State.

Adebayo Taofiq, spokesperson for the agency, said that the suspects mimicked government officials to collect illegal park tolls from their victims.

He said suspects paraded “fake identity cards to extort innocent motorists, including illegal traders who sell by the roadside.”

Taofiq added that the agency also impounded 123 vehicles for illegal parking in the Ebute-Ero and Apongbon areas and that their owners would be prosecuted for committing traffic offences.
