Why I don’t want Tinubu as Nigeria’s president – Atiku

Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, has asked the presidential elections tribunal to disqualify president-elect Bola Tinubu for holding dual citizenship of both Nigeria and Guinea.

He made the request in a fresh petition he filed against Tinubu’s victory. Atiku argues that Tinubu perjured by failing to disclose his Guinean citizenship in the Form EC9 submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), contrary to the provisions of the law.

He also stated that his identity, age, state of origin and educational qualifications are not disputable unlike Tinubu’s. The former vice president added Tinubu was unfit to be Nigeria’s president having allegedly being indicted for drug-related offences for which he forfeited 460,000 dollars to the United States government.

A bio-data page of Tinubu’s Guinean diplomatic passport had surfaced on social media some days ago, thereby fueling speculations he deliberately hid the fact from the electoral umpire.

But a Guinean ambassador to the African Union (AU) for Agenda 2063, reportedly defended Tinubu, stating that Guinean former president Alpha Condé conferred a honorary citizenship on Tunde and recognized the latter as a special envoy. He also stated that Conde had invited Tinubu to the country’s independence anniversary during his time as president.
